Q: Do I really need a website for my business?
A: A web site is an extremely effective way
to showcase your products and services to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Potential
customers will often turn to the web first to look for information on your
business and those of your competitors. A professional, well-planned site will
give your business the competitive edge.
Q: How much does a web site cost?
A: Generally, a web site is priced by the number of pages,
custom graphics and special features incorporated into the site. When dealing
with a reputable company a basic 5 page site can start as low as a few thousand dollars and
can grow from there. The business owner can reduce costs by preparing his own
graphics, photographs and text information ahead of time. Special features
such as Flash animation, shopping cart, credit card processing and client updateable
functionality can add substantially to the price.
Q: Can I start with a basic site and upgrade later?
A: Absolutely. Features such
as shopping cart, Flash animation and/or submission
form can be added at a later date.
Q: How do I register the name of my web site?
A: Your web site name is known as the "domain
name" or URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
It is a unique name that, once registered, cannot
be used by anyone else. Registration costs approximately
$35 per year and can be secured by contacting us at sales@fasturtle.com. or
by downloading our domain name registration document
and faxing it in. We will search domain names for
availability free of charge. There are an average of 40,000 domain names registered
each day so it makes sense to register your
preferred name early - even if you do not intend to
have your site developed for some time.
Q: What is the difference between
domain name suffixes such as ".com", ".net", ".ca",
etc.?
A: The ".com" suffix
is short for "commercial" and
is the most common. The ".ca" suffix
denotes a Canadian site but Canadian sites are
certainly not restricted to using this suffix.
It is beneficial to select a domain name that is intuitive to your customers -
that is, a name that most people will deduce without having
to look up on a search engine. For example, our company name is "GoFTT"
and most people will correctly guess our domain name to be "www.goftt.com".
Q: How do I find a good web design firm?
A: A web site is a one time purchase for most
businesses which can make the task of selecting a firm a difficult process. Most design
firms post their portfolios on their web site allowing prospective customers
to review their work and gain an appreciation of their style and competency.
A good design firm will carefully review a client's specific requirements before quoting a price, also
check to see how long the firm has been in business and what associations that
are affiliated with, such as BBB and local chambers.
Q: How much will it cost to host my web site?
A: Hosting fees can vary and will depend on the special features required
by the site. A basic site that does not require special scripts or database set up can be hosted
for less than $199 per year. Sites which use databases, CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripting and SSL (Secure
Socket Layers) for credit card encryption require more sophisticated hosting arrangements
and are more expensive. Our hosting services begin at $30 a month
for small businesses based on spam filters, marketing statistics and many more
features businesses need to stay competitive.
Q: How will I be able to tell what
kind of traffic my site is generating?
A: We add a site traffic monitor
to your site which runs behind the scenes to
keep track of the number of hits your site is
getting. With this feature, you will be able
to check your site stats at any time
to see how many hits your site is getting by day, by week, by month as well
as which pages are getting the most attention from your viewers.
Q: How should I promote and publicize my site?
A: The best way to publicize
your site is to make sure your web site name
is displayed on all of your printed advertising,
yellow pages ad, business cards and signage. Your site should also be listed on all
of the major internet search engines - a task that we can do for you.
Just contact us at sales@goftt.com
regarding a Search Engine Optimization program. We offer programs starting as low as $95
a month.
Q: What is a "Flash Intro" and
should I have one for my site?
A: A Flash intro is an animated
movie clip that previews your web site. They
generally last a few seconds and are sometimes
accompanied by sound effects or music. They require special
expertise to develop and can add hundreds of dollars to the cost of
a site. A good flash intro will capture the viewer's
attention and entice him to look further. The
intro must have a "Skip" button
to allow the viewer to bypass the movie if they have already seen it or do
not wish to sit through it.
Our preference is to incorporate the flash
movie as part of the home page where navigation
buttons are easily accessible allowing the viewer
to branch off to other areas of the site at his
leisure. While the movie is loading, you can hold the viewer's attention by
presenting text information and static images.
Q: Are you able to guarantee a high ranking in the search
engines with your search engine optimization strategy?
A: Actually Yes. We have specialists
on staff that monitor the almost monthly changes to search engine submission
tactics and implement only what we have actually tested and proven to be successful.
Q: Are your programmers certified?
A:Yes, we have programmers certified in all areas on staff.
Q: What development software do you use?
A: We use Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Fireworks,
Marcromedia Flash MX, Visual Studio.NET, and Homesite.
Q: What other digital medium are you proficient in?
A: We are highly proficient
in multimedia CD-ROM production, pay per click
ad campaigns, email marketing campaigns, banner
ad creation and management, windows application
development, search engine optimization, computer
based training and technology consulting.

other development companies?

as well as small businesses locally.

Q: Are you able to integrate streaming
audio and video into your websites?
A: Yes. In fact, we have a

Q: What is my role in the development process?
A: With over a decade of graphic
design, programming, web usability and marketing
experience, the actual architecture
(visuals, copy, navigation, etc.) of the site
will be our responsibility.
Your role will be the most crucial part of this
process in that you will be responsible for communicating
to us the details of your business, industry,
markets and your goals for the application.
Q: How will you provide constant communication
to me on the status of my project throughout development?
A: The project manager assigned
to your project will provide you with a username
and password that will allow you to log into
your own project
status site. You will be able to upload any files
that we will need
for the site as well as receive status reports
on your project.
Q: Do I own the code used to create
my website?
A: After we have received final payment
for your project, you will own all the code used to create
your site.
Q: During your development process what
elements are most important?
A: Staying within budget, staying on
schedule, communication, and complete client
satisfaction.
Q: Will I be required to provide materials based on a
schedule you provide for me?
A: Yes. In order to meet the
required finish date, we will need any materials
you are providing for the site by a certain date.
It is entirely up to
you, however, if you wish to push the date for
completion back.
Q: If I have any questions or problems during
the development of my site who can I talk to?
A: You will be assigned a project manager who
will be happy to assist you every step of the way.
